My Project Ideas

• Research Paper on ethics of apps like TikTok and their immediate gratification and inclination towards addiction


• A browser extension that protects your data from being stolen while browsing the web


• Use my time to benefit a local soup kitchen or homeless shelter


• A website that lists common ethical dilemma's and allows for anonymous comments on them for discussion


• Research report on ethics of refugee's. I'm considering this one because of the issues that Ukrainian refugee's have been facing.


• Research paper on the ethics of completely automating 'dumb labor' ex: construction, creation of goods, farming, etc.


• Research paper on what anonymity online does to one's morals and ethics


• Research paper on the ethics of how an AI should be treated if theoretically we were able to create one


• Research paper on the ethics of using facial recognition software throughout the country like China


• Research paper on the ethics and morals of assisted suicide, and should it be illegal or legal?

Project 1 Format Ideas

• Considering my ideas, I'm leaning towards either a program/website or a research paper.


• I'm also very interested in donating time at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen. I did it briefly as a kid and I would like to do it again now that I have more perspective and maturity.


• Pro of doing a program/website: Relates to my major which should make it easier


• Pro of doing a program/website: Can create something that I can actually show on my resume.


• Con of doing a program/website: Unknown time to finish and possibly more complex than a paper


• Pro of doing a research paper: Many more ideas to choose from


• Pro of doing a research paper: Clear goal and progress with a much more structured construction


• Con of doing a research paper: Writing isn't my forte and would be less interesting than writing a program


• Pro of donating time at homeless shelter: My project actually benefits real people



• Con of donating time at a homeless shelter: Possibly would take up more of my time than the other two, possibly impacting my other classes




Questions about Course Information or Syllabus



The only question I have is what other computer program related projects have people done in the past? I feel like hearing what kind of projects other people have done would give me inspiration and a better idea of what path I should take with mine.
